2012 Allegrezza Zinfandel
"Allegrezza" means joyful: named as such because we know this Zin will make your taste buds jump for joy. The aromatics leap from the glass and the mix of bright and dark berry fruit immediately excites the palate. Allegrezza hails from the Harris Kratka Vineyard, which has long been producing stellar, award-winning Zinfandel. Tucked away in Alexander Valley, this vineyard produces small berry clones that benefit from extended hang time for the perfect ripeness producing rich, dark Zinfandel.
Vineyards: Alexander Valley, and the Harris Kratka Vineyard in particular, is known for its dark, rich, intense Zinfandel. Blackberries, dark black cherries and black raspberries are the predominant fruits in the rich, extracted wine. Hints of cola, eucalyptus, dark chocolate and exotic spice round out the mouth-watering Zinfandel. Revel in the long, silky finish.
The Wine: The Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane were harvested in late October, then hand sorted, and crushed and de-stemmed into a combination of three-quarter ton macro bins and steel tank. A three-day cold soak was done before fermentation; the three varietals were co-fermented. The bins were hand punched down twice a day, and the tank had a pump-over twice a day during fermentation. It was then gently pressed off and put into 100% French oak barrels. The wine was racked four times while aging in barrels, and then lightly filtered for bottling.
